As one of the top recruitment agencies in the UK for the design industry, we hold a number of vacancies from high end clients seeking experienced project managers.
The role of project manager is essential to the successful running of any design company. Traditionally it offers an attractive salary to the right candidate, but also requires significant experience within the industry, and has expectations of a solid work ethic and can-do attitude.
Project managers are generally team leaders, responsible for a group of staff from various disciplines and backgrounds, to cascade information and handle problems that may arise. Most project management jobs include dealing with a budget, and many roles require a manager with a hands-on approach, being experienced in the technical side of design themselves.
From this it can be readily deduced that the successful applicant for a project manager role will have excellent interpersonal skills, both with their own staff, and with customers, clients, and other stakeholders. They will be expected to be able to negotiate deals that are favourable to the company, not just in terms of money, but also regarding the product brief, realistic deadlines, company exposure, and so on.
While you will have a highly-skilled team supporting you, responsibility for the project is ultimately in your hands, so you must be able to motivate your team to meet the expectations of the company and your clients.
