Their bespoke projects are borne from a consultative service offered to clients who wish to realise individual commissions that draw on their design expertise. As Design Technician and Estimator you will be part of the creative and design team, responsible for those individual projects to ensure smooth transition from concept to installation. You will also act as the first point of contact with the Sales Operations team, with the focus to provide design, quotations, pricing and technical support.


Duties and Responsibilities for the Product Design Technician and Estimator include:

  • Working to brief to identify and understand customer needs and maintaining the flow of the project information through to completion
  • Producing drawings for client approval and ensuring drawings are accurate for manufacture
  • Working with the Design Manager to create custom and bespoke considerations on new designs
  • Using SolidWorks and the CAD database to ensure all files are up to date
  • Providing technical support to colleagues


Skills and Experience needed for the Product Design Technician and Estimator role:

  • Minimum of 3 years' professional experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably lighting and/or furniture
  • SolidWorks proficiency
  • Adobe Suite, you will mainly be using lnDesign and Acrobat Pro
  • A technical and commercial understanding of furniture and lighting construction, materials and techniques for effective manufacture
  • Strong collaborative skills and be a confident and capable communicator
  • Able to work to deadlines with strong planning, prioritisation and time management skills
  • You should possess a keen eye for detail, with an appreciation for the highest quality craftsmanship and materials

Our client is a well-established, family-owned UK independent manufacturer of products and furniture for the home. They have multiple brands, enabling them to appeal to a wide range of tastes with customers including, architects, designers, specifiers, retailers, hospitality, private and social housing providers and the end consumer.

They are currently looking for an experienced Product Prototype Developer / Model Maker with excellent joinery and carpentry skills and woodworking machine experience to make prototype models using Timber, MDF, Metal, Resin, Gel Coats, Casting / Tooling Resins and Fibre Glass.

The ideal candidate will work closely with the development department, mainly in product development, rather than mass production. The candidate will also have input into the final design of the product to help to ensure ease of manufacture.

Key Duties / Responsibilities:

  • You will work closely with the development department, working from technical drawings and resolving technical problems
  • To use your workshop skills to make prototype and production moulds
  • You will work closely with the design department to assist in the design of new products or modifications to existing designs, from detailed component design to full assembly
  • Communicate with Management / Directors to provide information on project status and expected completion dates
  • Liaise with other workshop staff and designers to carry out work
  • Continually seek to improve both personal and workshop capabilities


Skills and Experience needed for the Product Prototype Developer  / Model Maker:

  • Ability to use standard machine shop tools such as hand and portable power tools, within a workshop environment
  • Experience and understanding of resin casting process
  • Ideally experienced in rubber mould making and of painting 
  • Creativity, imagination and a willingness to adapt to different techniques and use of materials
  • Knowledge of Electronic Components, Timber & Metal Fabrication also useful
  • Good numeracy skills (calculating weights etc.)
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft products-to create guides for handover to production
  • Good communication skills, organised and a strong team player with a high standard of attention to detail

Senior Product Design Engineer:

  • Overseeing and validating the design, development and implementation of all bespoke project designs and new bespoke product applications
  • Identifying and suggesting new methods, procedures and work processes to continuously improve efficiencies and working practices
  • Undertaking regular meetings, appraisals and discussions of development plans with direct reports
  • Liaising directly with customers to identify their needs and provide project support and technical advice
  • Undertaking the design and development of innovative solutions to the client’s specification, producing high quality 3D models for manufacturing purposes

Skills and experience needed for the Senior Design Engineer role:
  • Min. 5 years’ experience post studies for a technical or specialist products company
  • At least 2 years’ people management experience, working as a supervisor or design lead (or equivalent)
  • Strong organisational and planning skills
  • Excellent commercial awareness

Our client is an interior design and engineering firm that excels at producing complete design packages. Their services include architectural design, shopfitting, interior design, surveying, landscaping and structural design internationally.
 
With offices in Jeddah and Madrid, their London office is the main Interior Design and FF&E Studio and where they currently have two vacancies for a Senior FF&E Interior Designer (now filled) and a Mid Weight Interior Designer.
 
The Senior FF&E Interior Designer will provide strong project and team leadership, with exceptional communication throughout and encourage and promote team spirit and motivation. 
Other duties include to:
  • Coordinate and oversee the project’s documentation and develop detailed specifications for FF&E
  • Manage and check information produced by consultants, sub-contractors and suppliers
  • Forecast, identify, and communicate risks and bring ideas and solutions to the table
  • Close projects efficiently by supporting the project team on rectifying snags and assist in onsite installation
  • Contribute to setting the internal design standards and guidelines
  • Streamline processes and procedures to increase quality and efficiency

The Mid Weight Interior Designer will be formulating design ideas and working closely with other team members. You will be expected to contribute your interest in past styles, detailing and antiques, as well as understanding current trends.

  • Be involved in budgeting and working to project deadlines
  • Work from concept to installation
  • Establish costs and take briefs 
  • Prepare and manage FF&E cost schedules and spreadsheets for reporting on and approval of budgets

Senior FF&E Interior Designer:
  • A minimum of 8 years of professional experience in high-end residential or hospitality

  • Good use of Estimate / SpecSources / Folio (or similar procurement software)
  • Good leadership and communication skills
 
Mid Weight Interior Designer:

  • Exceptional attention to detail and knowledge of materials, finishes & detailing
  • Good time-management and organisational skills

  • Experience in AutoCAD, Adobe and InDesign are a must
  • Good use of a procurement software
 
In return they offer the following salaries plus pension contribution and medical insurance. They work Monday to Thursday in the office with an option to work from home on Fridays. Senior FF&E Interior Designer (now filled): £48k to £60k. Mid Weight Interior Designer: £35k to £45k.
