Our client creates furniture using natural, sustainable and non-toxic materials. They work with private clients, architects and designers and handle commissions from institutions from around the world.
They are currently seeking an Estimator who could come from a cabinet making, design or technical background within a similar industry. You will be assisting and supporting the sales team in preparing estimates and quotations to meet company and client objectives of specification, quality, cost and timescale. This is a central role within the business, and you will need to build and maintain good relationships across all departments, providing clear and robust information to support business decision making.
Key Responsibilities for the Estimator include to:
- Create detailed quotation documents for the Sales Team, using their custom Excel quoting system.
- Develop and foster relationships with Key Cabinet Makers to assist in estimating hours.
- Input making, finishing, site installation hours and all materials required for the project.
- Liaise with both internal and external suppliers to obtain prices to enable accurate quotations.
- Develop good relationships with suppliers and other subcontractors.
- Review contracts prior to agreement to check that it reflects the estimate.
- Providing detailed handovers to the design team and workshop.
- Close liaison with the workshop, providing information of jobs won and programme for the production schedule, ensuring fit with production capacity.
- Providing information to the finance team for project valuations and evaluations.
Skills and Experience needed from the Estimator:
- Industry knowledge of Furniture and Joinery design
- Good commercial awareness
- Microsoft Office and Excel Advanced
- Numerate and organised

This role is hands-on, delivering construction drawings and operating the production CNC machine whilst reporting to Production Management. You will be ensuring that technical construction drawings are accurate, achievable and health & safety compliant. This is a responsible part of the team which ensures the successful realisation of projects from briefing in through to installation, often working to tight deadlines.
Main Responsibilities include:
- Produce detailed specification and construction drawings of scenic elements, using CAD, Photoshop and/or manual drawing skills as appropriate
- Produce technical specifications for scenic elements, research special materials / construction methods and order items as required
- Liaise with Technical Manager & production team to discuss costings approach and verify detail.
- CNC machine operation including the preparation of files for cutting.
- Sustainable, ecological & ethical approach to working in line with the Company sustainability policy
Skills and Experience needed for the Draughtsperson and CNC Operator role:
- Have a firm understanding and experience of using AutoCAD or DraftSight
- Excellent IT skills including MS Office
- Able to operate a CNC machine and prepare CNC files
- High level of attention to detail and quality control
- Able to work in a fast-paced industry with a flexible approach to working to meet deadlines
- Good interpersonal and communication skills
- Hold a full, clean driving licence

THE ROLE
We are looking for a creative, highly organised individual to be responsible for designing and managing a number of concurrently running manufacturing projects from the enquiry stage, right through to completion, as well as managing project costs, estimates, client communication and bespoke drawings.
MAIN FUNCTION OF THE ROLE
- As a Designer you will be designing and managing manufacturing projects from enquiry stage through to completion. This will involve being the main point of contact for the client / production team and occasionally sub-contractors. You will be responsible for the issue of project programme information to all parties
- The Design element to the role is key. You will be creating client drawings for bespoke lighting, hardware, and furniture projects, working to tight deadlines. Good time management is important as you will need to juggle multiple tasks and projects
- You will also be responsible for monitoring project costs. You may also be required to estimate costings for bespoke enquiries, working with the Design Coordinator to agree when a costing / estimate should be expected and to ensure that the information provided in estimates and sales orders is accurate
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE
- Creation of client and production drawings using SolidWorks CAD software
- Working closely with the Production Engineering Manager and production staff to ensure that the design uses the most appropriate materials / finishes and production processes, whilst also meeting the client’s expectations and project budget
- Liaising with the workshop and subcontractors to arrange material samples for the client’s approval
- Project research and development should be recorded to allow R&D reports to be created. It may be necessary for Designers to attend R&D meetings to discuss projects
- Project Management
- Maintaining a consistent approach with the communication between the design team and the production team
- Monitoring project costs
- Work closely with the Dispatch Manager to schedule the delivery / shipping of bespoke projects
SKILLS/EXPERIENCE
- Proven relevant experience
- Accomplished SolidWorks user
- Experience in project managing bespoke design projects
- Client-facing experience with high-end clientele
- Experience working with suppliers and subcontractors
- Comfortable monitoring project costs and schedules
- Experience with lighting and furniture design / manufacture preferred

You will be involved in the finer details of furniture manufacture, procurement and installation so this would suit an individual with strong knowledge of joinery and the construction of furniture.
This role will be WFH but you should be based in Yorkshire close enough to travel regularly into Harrogate.
Your work will involve:
- Using AutoCAD for technical drawings and design work
- Facilitating the development of sign-off, setting out, procurement and production of furniture, including cabinetry, metal elements, stone elements and other custom materials and features
- Mechanical and electrical drawings and installation drawings to aid site trades
- Liaising with the design team and project managers
- Working with private clients, architects, developers and interior designers
- Occasional travel to the showroom / studio in London and often to project sites, in order to attend meetings and to carry out site surveys and checks
Skills and Experience needed for the Furniture Designer:
- A good understanding of high-end custom furniture
- Minimum of 2 years relevant work experience
- Fluent in AutoCAD
- Experience in 3D work and 3D visualisation is a bonus but not essential
- A proactive person with a 'self-starter' attitude
- Own car and Driving Licence
