5 Ways to Boost Your Design Career in Lockdown
Posted on 30 Apr, 2020
With the whole nation under lockdown and many of us either working from home or sat at home with nothing to do, it can be so easy to let things stagnate. However, the current situation is no reason to neglect your design career. There are plenty of ways that you can improve your skills and boost your design career, even during a national lockdown.
Here are five of the best…
Online courses
There are dozens of short-form design courses available online. The free online learning resource OpenLearn has several of them, ranging from introductory sessions clocking in at a couple of hours, to week-long advanced courses. You may not get a recognised qualification for your troubles, but you will get new skills and the satisfaction of expanding your knowledge for its own sake.
Webinars
Likewise, you can attend an online seminar (or webinar) presented by a seasoned professional in your particular field. Some of these require payment either as part of a course, or a subscription. Many however can be found for free, or watched as part of a trial period through sites like Skillshare.
Refresh your CV
Your CV and design portfolios remain key to obtaining the best interior design jobs. Now that you have time on your hands, why not spend it freshening yours up? Don’t forget to then upload it to Careers in Design, once you’re done!
Make the most of social media
Whether you favour Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Pinterest or any other platform, it’s easy to find other design professionals on social media. Whether you’re following one of the big names or joining a dedicated group on your platform of choice, it’s a great way to network with others in the field and arguably less nerve-wracking than doing the same thing in person.
Subscribe to design blogs
We recently posted an entire blog entry detailing some of the best blogs for would be interior designers to follow, but it’s worth reiterating here. By following these blogs, you not only get quality insights from some of the best in the business, but you also get to keep abreast of any industry news that may be relevant to you.
Of course it is also important to take some downtime for yourself. Whether to consider the direction you want to take when we can return to work or just to take a well-earned breather from the pressures around you.
You can register with Careers in Design today and upload your CV. One of our consultants will be able to discuss your CV and Portfolio and help you make the most of your career development, even while we’re under lockdown.
